Charles Turner Thackrah's 1831 book, "The Effects of Arts, Trades and Professions on Health and Longevity", was the first systematic English study of industrial and trade-related diseases and their prevention. Meiklejohn's biography of Thackrah is extremely informative, and this title includes a reprinting of the enlarged 2nd edition of Thackrah's original text.
