An important sale of American silver and furniture, including pieces by Phyfe, Townsend, Goddard, Seymour, McIntire, Coney, Revere, Burt, etc. There was also an outstanding collection of American portrait miniatures, including works by Peale, Fraser, Malbone, Inman, Copley, the Birch enamel of Washington, and Ellen Sharpless' bust of Hamilton. Lawton was a prosperous textile manufacturer who "assembled collections" of American antiques and then sold it all off from time to time...
