The Private Collection of Frederic Fairchild and Julia Munson Sherman. A Memorial Exhibit.

Springfield, George Walter Vincent Smith Art Gallery: 1941.

Frederic Fairchild Sherman (1874-1940) was a poet, a passionate art collector, a writer, the publisher of a pioneering series of monographs on American artists, and the editor-publisher of 'Art in America' magazine. This memorial exhibition of paintings from his collection, including work by his favorite artist, Albert Pinkham Ryder, contains text from both his own publications and his private notes. Scarce.

Softcover. 8"x11", 24 pages, plus 30 b/w illustrations on 25 plates. Text printed on deckle-edged paper. Some spotting on several plates, light wear, but a nice copy.
