The author sailed on the whaling bark Sunbeam in August of 1904, and recounts his experiences off the west coast of Africa and the Crozet Island grounds here, as well as recounting the golden age of American whaling, the whalemen, their coats and tools, their folk arts, and, of course, the whales.

Hardcover. 8.5"x11", xxiv + 379 pages, 110 black & white illustrations, plus 16 color plates. Publisher's quarter cloth, covers light soiled, minor wear, front hinge with several small paper cracks in the gutter, but tight.
