Adams, Bill (ed.). Sheffield Exhibition Knives. Salem Old World Publishing: 1999. A fabulously photographed 'exhibition' of the finest knives from that world-renowned knife-making capitol, Sheffield. "Here you will see daggers and Bowie knives fit for a king -or an oriental potentate. There are multi-bladed sportsmen's knives, fishing knives with hook removers...some of the knives have been identified as being exhibited in the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition or in the Great Exposition in London in 1879. Here you will see knives with interchangeable handles, folding dirk knives with carved pearl handles from the 1830s, cased penknives with engraved gold bolsters and a cock spur marked "Cutlers to the King". Since this book was a display of the world's finest knives, it was necessary to supplement the outstanding pictures with a group of writings from some of the world's finest knife experts. We have that with chapters from Bill Adams, Bernard Levine, and Jim Taylor". The knives shown include many examples from the firms of Joseph Rodgers, George Wostenholm, and John Blyde-Greenhough Knives. Hardcover. 8.5"x11", 245+ pages, loaded with color plates, dust jacket. In fine, clean condition.

Because he worked with Don Ferm'n, the designer who clothes many of the greatest Spanish, French, and South American toreros, MYller was able to bring these men and their teams together in his studio. The resulting photographs-including gatefolded panoramas over 28 inches long of entire seven-man teams-reveal both the stunning workmanship of these unique costumes and also the pride and confidence of the bullfighters". Chitwood begins his book with a table of carvers listing them by name, date, location, carving period, number of decoys made, and a description of the types of decoys they carved. This is followed by a detailed text covering the various geographic areas in Connecticut and the decoys produced there, along with biographical notes on the gunners as well as the carvers. Jordan, George E. George L. Viavant. Artist of the Hunt. Historical New Orleans Collection: 2003. "Inspired by the bayous, marshes, and lagoons of southern Louisiana, artist George Viavant [1872-1925] produced exquisite paintings of the birds, fish, and small game that he knew so well from years spent hunting on his family's property just outside New Orleans. This book relates the story of the man whose work won the acclaim of hunters both in Louisiana and in other parts of the country. His meticulous watercolors expertly capture each feather and fin of his subject, which he depicted, after the hunt, hanging from a small cord or string. Here was the bounty of the hunt, as realistic as the bird or fish itself". Hardcover. 8.5"x10", 127 pages, color and some black & white illustrations, dust jacket. New.

Nobbes, Robert. The Compleat Troller, or, The Art of Trolling, With A Description of all the Utensils, Instruments, Tackling, and Materials requisite thereto: With Rules and Directions how to use them. As Also A Brief Account of most of the Principal Rivers in England. By a Lover of the Sport. London printed by T. James for Tho. Holder at the Angel in Little Britain: 1682. 1st edition. A popular early work. Although not the earliest English work on fishing, Nobbes' work is one of the most popular, and Nobbes has been called "the Father of trollers". Republished in 1770 and again in 1805, the 1770 edition is especially troubling as it was a "facsimile". However, a comparison of copies at the Houghton Library at Harvard confirms this as a second issue of the first edition.
