Wessel, Klaus. Die Byzantinische Emailkunst vom 5. Bis 13. Jahrhundert. Verlag Aurel Bongers Recklinghausen: 1967. A scholarly study of Byzantine enamels of the 5th through 13th centuries in Europe, with extensive and very scholarly and knowledgeable pencil notes on many, many pages, with additional information on the history of enamels in Europe and the pieces discussed. Notes are not usually a selling point, but these are. Whose are they? There is the possible ownership signature of Janet Thorpe, Associate Curator at the Cooper Hewitt Museum at the time -her name appears to be an ownership note, but might not be. Whoever it was knew what they were doing. Hardcover. 9"x11", 213 pages, color and black & white illustrations. Light wear.
